What “Lessons Learned” would you provide to others implementing with this partner / software? What else would you tell us about your project experience?
I would say that as a payroll department led project, supported by Align HCM for implementation and management, we successfully met our objectives. The team was friendly, flexible, experienced, and professional, making them a great partner to work with.
One key lesson learned was the importance of having the right internal resources to collaborate effectively with our partner. There were a couple of instances where the implementation partner did not fit or wasn’t ideal, however once we raised the issue, our partner promptly addressed it. My advice in this area is to ensure you are fully satisfied and that expectations are clear—if not, speak up. A good partner will respond and make adjustments as needed.
Another takeaway was that, on the business side, we were not as ready as our partner to execute, which led to slight project delays and for us to go overbudget. However, Align was able to pivot and adapt to those changes.
Lastly, internal change management played a crucial role. Our implementation partner wasn’t embedded in our company, so they didn’t have full visibility into our people, departments, communications, and unique company culture. We needed to align better internally to enable our partner to support us effectively.
This project was particularly valuable for me, as it was the first one I fully led from start to finish. Now that we are live we continue to use Align HCM as we move to post go live support.
