Start payroll interface activities 6 months earlier than you think is necessary
Insist on the partner bring an outline program plan based on their previous experience with other clients; do not allow them to get away with telling you how much experience they bring and then starting the project planning from scratch
Develop the testing strategy early and ensure that this is adhered to, even if the pressure is on to go live at a set date and cutting corners on testing is the only way to create space.
