Have an experienced project manager (internally) to ensure the progress, do a deep dive in to your needs and wants in a new system/module and use this as the building blocks for assessing the vendors and systems/modules. Ask a lot of questions and use the experience/competencies of the consultant. Do a thorough TEST of the system during SIT and UAT phase of the project!
